The Observatory enhances its "Automatic Regional Weather Forecast" service

The Hong Kong Observatory launched the webpage of "Automatic Regional Weather Forecast in Hong Kong & Pearl River Delta Region" today (31 March). This service consolidates the "Automatic Regional Weather Forecast in Hong Kong", the "Digital Weather Forecast" and the "Pearl River Delta Rainfall Nowcast" webpages, thereby providing members of the public with a one-stop-shop portal to get hold of the forecast rainfall distribution in the next two hours and the computer automatic weather forecasts of Hong Kong and neighbouring region in the next nine days. This enables the public to be better prepared for short term to medium term weather changes. The 9-day automatic regional weather forecasts will be extended to the mobile app "MyObservatory" in late 2015.

The "Automatic Regional Weather Forecast in Hong Kong & Pearl River Delta Region" uses outputs from various computer weather prediction models to produce weather forecasts for more than 250 locations in Hong Kong and neighbouring areas. They include hourly forecasts of air temperature, relative humidity, wind direction and wind speed, as well as the chance of rainfall over Hong Kong for each day out to 9 days. The webpage also depicts rainfall forecast in Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta Region in the next 2 hours in the form of an animation of forecast rainfall maps and time series of forecast rainfall intensity.
