Enhancement of Weather Services with Adoption of Two Weather Icons

24 March 2012

With effect from 20 March, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) will display two weather icons on its website when significant change in weather is expected within the forecast period. This enables members of the public to get hold of the weather changes more easily and clearly. For instance, when the weather is forecast to change from fine to overcast with rain, or rain is forecast to intensify with thunderstorms, we will display two weather icons on its website. If no significant weather change is expected, the webpage will still display only one weather icon.

Apart from the HKO website, the new feature is available on the mobile version of the website and the iPhone version of the "MyObservatory". The new feature will be made available on the Android version of the "MyObservatory" in its next upgrade.

We will collect feedbacks from users on the new service, and will explore the feasibility of extending this service to other media.
