Starting from today (23 August 2011), the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) enhances its service by delivering earthquake messages to the Weibo and Twitter accounts of the HKO. The earthquake messages include those of worldwide earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 or above as analyzed by the HKO, and locally felt earthquakes that are of interest to the public. In addition to the earthquake messages, the HKO currently delivers via its Weibo and Twitter accounts the real-time weather warnings, weather reports related to hazardous weather, as well as news and sidelights of the HKO.

The HKO has been disseminating earthquake messages on its Quick Earthquake Message (QEM) Twitter account since 23 March 2011. From now on, members of the public can receive the earthquake messages via more channels.

The public is welcome to follow HKO's accounts on Weibo and Twitter:
