"Cool Met Stuff" : Hoisting of physical typhoon signals

2 June 2017

A new episode is now available at the "Cool Met Stuff" channel on the Observatory webpage and "MyObservatory" mobile application. Sometimes, we still hear people saying "hoisting typhoon signal" during the passage of typhoons. In the past without advance electronic communication method, the typhoon signals were physically hoisted on a mast at signal stations to alert public and vessels to return to the typhoon shelter. This episode tells you the history of hoisting physical typhoon signals.
