Solar Eclipse overlooked from the Space
19 August 2009
On 22 July 2009, crowds of people in mainland China and many Asian countries experienced the magnificence of total solar eclipse. Did you know that solar eclipse can be viewed not only upward from the Earth, but also downward from the Space? An animation of MTSAT satellite images received by the Hong Kong Observatory on July 22 is now available at the Observatory's Youtube site at www.youtube.com/hkweather. As shown, the shadow of the moon (circled in red) traversed eastward across Asia and the Pacific, whereas areas under the shadow were experiencing the eclipse. Details on the eclipse can be found on the Observatory's webpage http://www.weather.gov.hk/press/SP/pre20090722e.htm. |
