Revision of the annual outlook for 2011

6 July 2011

The rainfall of January-June 2011 recorded at the Hong Kong Observatory was 707.9 mm, which is about 67% of the normal value of 1055 mm for the same period. Latest forecasts by a number of climate models around the world (including the summer forecast generated by the Global-Regional Climate Model operated in-house by the Observatory) indicate that the rainfall of Hong Kong in the second half of the year will likely be normal to below normal. Taking the above into consideration, the Observatory expects the total rainfall of Hong Kong in 2011 to be normal to below normal and has revised its annual rainfall forecast for 2011 accordingly.
