Projections of extreme temperature events for Hong Kong in the 21st century

10 April 2015

Using climate model data from the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Observatory has updated the projections of extreme temperature events for Hong Kong in the 21st century under different greenhouse gas concentration scenarios. Under the high greenhouse gas concentration scenario, the annual numbers of hot nights and very hot days in Hong Kong are expected to increase significantly in this century. Meanwhile, although occasional cold weather extremes are still possible in a warming climate, the number of cold days in Hong Kong is expected to decrease.
