Satellite Imagery of Interest : Eruption of Sakurajima Volcano

A new Satellite Imagery of Interest is now available on the Observatory's website. The imagery shows the recent eruption of Sakurajima Volcano in Japan.

Sakurajima Volcano, located around four kilometres from Kagoshima City in the southern part of Kyushu, Japan, erupted since late April 2016. Meteorological satellite captured one of the eruptions on 1 May 2016. The imagery shows that a plume of volcanic ash from the volcano spreads to the east in the prevailing westerly winds. (The imagery was captured by Himawari-8 satellite of Japan Meteorological Agency)
