How does the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government deal with the radioactive wastes occurred during nuclear emergencies?

The Waste Disposal Action Plan defined by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) outlines the essential requirements and procedures in handling contaminated wastes during nuclear emergencies. Departments which have radioactive contaminated waste to dispose of should provide information of the waste to the Waste Disposal Officer of EPD, who will advise on the requirements for waste collection and disposal according to the contamination level and the risk that will bring to the emergency personnel. The contaminated wastes, normally in low levels of radiation, will be treated as ordinary wastes. Only those wastes with contamination level exceeding the limit are classified as radioactive wastes. They should be collected and transported either by contractors who are familiar with the handling of radioactive wastes or by emergency personnel wearing protection gears. The wastes will be properly handled including such measures as buried in the trenches of landfills.
