How does the nuclear power station handle radioactive wastes?

The management of radioactive wastes in nuclear power station should adhere to the principle of radiation protection i.e. keeps all radiation exposures below applicable limits as far as possible. Low-level gaseous and liquid radioactive wastes are discharged to the environment after appropriate treatment and supervision. Medium-level liquid waste is solidified and stored. Solid waste is compressed or mixed with sand or cement and then poured into sealed containers and transported to the repository for burial eventually. High-level radioactive waste will be transported to remote areas for reprocessing or burial in deep underground repository.
