How to deal with the radioactive wastes?
Three methods are generally employed in the treatment of radioactive wastes: 'dilute and discharge', 'concentrate and store', and 'recycle'. Liquid and gaseous radioactive wastes when diluted to below regulatory levels can be discharged to the environment. Liquid radioactive waste, after concentrated or solidified, can be kept in designated storage together with solid radioactive waste. Spent nuclear fuel can be recycled after chemical reprocessing which removes fission products and retrieves unexhausted or newly produced nuclear fuel.
