How is radiotherapy performed ?

Radiotherapy is the use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer cells. Usually an external, collimated beam is used to irradiate the parts requiring treatment, and in some cases radioactive material is placed near the tumour so that the radiation will act on the tumor more directly.
