What are the procedures for assessing cosmic radiation exposure ?

The regulations require that the cosmic radiation doses of crew members should be assessed by computer program projection and recorded. The annual dose for a crew member shall not exceed 6 mSv, not including the background radiation. Where it is possible that the annual dose exceeds 4 mSv, the crew member's exposure to cosmic radiation shall be monitored. If necessary, he/she may be deployed to other duties to ensure that his/her annual dosage does not exceed the recommended limit. The Civil Aviation Department also examines the cosmic radiation records regularly. Due to the potential of radiation damage to a developing fetus, female crew, once pregnant, is subjected to a total dose limit of 1 mSv during the pregnancy period.
