Accident Consequence Assessment System (ACAS)
The HKO operates an ACAS to assess the possible consequences of nuclear accidents with release of radioactive materials from the nuclear power stations.
Based on the actual and forecast meteorological data and information on the magnitude of the radiological release provided by the Guangdong authority, the ACAS simulates the transport and dispersion of the released radioactive materials and calculates the radiation dose that may affect different parts of Hong Kong.
Products of the ACAS include:
- Radioactive plume track;
- Effective dose and equivalent dose in thyroid;
- Ground contamination; and
- Activity concentration of nuclides in air.
