Observatory's weather forecasting and warning services is ISO 9001: 2015 certified

The Hong Kong Observatory’s weather forecasting and warning services is certified to ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems. The Observatory is among the first batch of meteorological centres in this region to receive this certification.

At the certificate presentation ceremony today (February 23), the Director of Hong Kong Observatory, Mr Shun Chi-ming, said, “The quality weather forecasting and warning services of the Observatory’s Central Forecasting Office being internationally certified is attributable to colleagues’ commitment to our values on ‘Innovate with Science, Serve with Heart’, and their perseverance in improving service quality as well as providing timely and accurate weather services to the public and other users. The certification recognises the Observatory’s contribution in safeguarding the quality of weather services and public safety.”

Mr Shun said in addition to issuing weather forecasts and warnings on hazardous weather to the public, the Observatory also provides appropriate weather services to government departments and public organisations. Over the years, the Observatory has been providing people-oriented quality services through science, innovation and collaboration to ensure public safety and meet the needs of the society. The Observatory will continue to optimise the communication with clients, the design of services and the workflow in weather forecasting, aiming to provide high quality weather services to the public.

The Certification & Business Enhancement Senior Director of SGS Hong Kong , Mr Ben Tsang said at the ceremony, “With a strong foundation on excellent service culture and infrastructure, the Observatory further optimised the management system for weather forecasting and warning services with reference to the ISO 9001:2015 standard requirements. During the certification audit process, we noted that the Observatory attached great importance to clients’ needs by providing weather forecasts and warnings in a rigorous and scientific manner, and continuously improving the quality of services.”
