The Observatory launches real-time weather photos at Sheung Shui
30 June 2015
The Hong Kong Observatory adds real-time weather photos at Sheung Shui to its website starting from today (June 30) so as to further enhance its regional weather information service.
The new camera, located at the Elegantia College in Sheung Shui, overlooks Long Valley and Ho Sheung Heung in the North District, as well as the recent travel photography hotspots near the Ma Tso Lung area. It also provides distant view of Lok Ma Chau and even the Futian area in Shenzhen. Weather photos taken by the camera help monitor weather conditions such as showers and thunderstorms over the surrounding regions near Sheung Shui. By making use of the weather photos, together with the air temperature and relative humidity data measured by the Observatory's Sheung Shui automatic weather station, the public can better grasp weather changes over the regions.
The Vice-Principal of the Elegantia College, Mr Chow Kam-ming, said, "We are very pleased to co-operate with the Observatory. The surrounding areas near Sheung Shui offer spectacular scenery and a host of tourist attractions. The newly added real-time weather photos provide further information to tourists and photography enthusiasts who plan to visit these scenic spots. We are delighted to share these photos with the public".
With the addition of weather photos at Sheung Shui, the number of sites providing weather photos on the Observatory's website has increased to 22. Members of the public can access the weather photos through the Observatory's "Regional Weather in Hong Kong" webpage (www.hko.gov.hk/wxinfo/ts/index_e_webcam.htm) and mobile platform webpage (m.hko.gov.hk/wxreport/wxphoto.htm). The real-time weather photos at Sheung Shui will also be made available in the next upgrading of "MyObservatory", a smartphone weather service application developed by the Observatory.
