Cold Spell in February

An intense winter monsoon brought persistently low temperatures and gloomy weather to Hong Kong in past few days. With replenishment of the winter monsoon to the south China coast today (13 February 2014), local weather will remain on the cold side in the next couple of days. Senior citizens and persons with chronic medical conditions should continue to take steps to protect themselves against the potential health impact caused by low temperatures.
Looking back, it is not uncommon to have very cold weather in Hong Kong during cold surges. Based on climatological information from 1981 to 2010, there is about one very cold day in every two years. The table below shows the years with the highest number of very cold days.
