Hong Kong Observatory's 2010 calendar on sale

5 November 2009

The "Hong Kong Observatory Calendar 2010" is now on sale.

To bring out the theme "60 Years for your Safety and Well-being" of 2010 World Meteorological Day, the calendar highlights the activities of the Observatory over the years in contributing to the safety and well-being of the public.

The motif of the calendar is summarised in the preface by the Director of the Observatory, Dr Lee Boon-ying, "Since its establishment in 1883, the Observatory has been committed to the application of science in ensuring public safety and mitigating the threats of natural disasters.Through active data exchange and scientific pursuits, it also contributes to the well-being of the local society, neighbouring regions and the international community."

The calendar contains useful climatological and astronomical information, including monthly climatological information, the time of rising/setting of the sun and the moon, and tidal information. Telephone numbers and websites for obtaining weather and geophysical information from the Hong Kong Observatory are also listed.

At $53 a copy, the calendar is an excellent gift for friends and relatives for Christmas and the New Year. It is on sale at the Hong Kong Observatory Resource Centre, the Publications Sales Unit of the Information Services Department, the Kowloon Map Publications Centre of the Lands Department, the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tuen Mun Central Post Office and Sha Tin Central Post Office.
