IAEA

Since the early 1960's, HKO has participated in laboratory measurement programmes on environmental radiation monitoring organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). From time to time, HKO also participated in the communication tests of the Convention Exercises (ConvEx) organized by IAEA. Since the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011, HKO officers have been actively involved in various activities organized by IAEA, notably provision of consultancy services and as rapporteur in expert meeting, on topics related to nuclear and radiological emergency preparedness and response. Recently, HKO was granted reader access to the IAEA's Unified System for Information Exchange in Incidents and Emergencies (USIE). This further enhances HKO’s capability to gather more useful information on nuclear/radiological events via this official channel.
