Delegation from the State Oceanic Administration visited the Observatory

8 December 2010

A 5-member delegation from the State Oceanic Administration (SOA) visited the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) and held a meeting with HKO on 23-24 November 2010 to discuss cooperation matters. SOA and HKO have cooperated closely on tsunami warning during the past few years. Apart from HKO officers joining the Chinese delegation led by SOA in attending meetings of the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System, the two parties also cooperated to produce a Chinese translation of a booklet "Tsunami- The Great Waves" for popular science education. SOA and HKO signed an Agreement on Cooperation on Oceanography in early 2007 and started exchanging storm surge warnings for the Pearl River Delta Region in 2010.
