Visit to the Observatory as part of the 2009 International Air Cadet Exchange Programme in Hong Kong

10 August 2009

More than 30 delegates of the 2009 International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE) Programme together with 20 local members of the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps staff visited the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) on the afternoon of 24 July. The delegates came from 10 countries including Australia, Canada, China, France, Ghana, Israel, Netherlands, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States. The Observatory colleagues briefed them on aviation-impacting weather and on the aviation weather services provided by the Observatory. The delegates also visited the Central Forecasting Officewhere they learned how weather observation and forecast were made.

The delegates are passionate young people from different cultures with a common interest in aviation knowledge. It was the first time that visit to HKO formed part of the IACE Programme in Hong Kong. The Observatory endeavours to promote meteorology education and is glad to have partners like Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps. The delegates of the IACE Programme expressed that they had a fruitful and enjoyable visit to the Observatory. It could be reflected from their active participation during the visit.
