Director of the Observatory visited China Meteorological Administration, Institute of Atmospheric Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences and State Oceanic Administration

Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr. Shun Chi-ming, together with Assistant Director, Ms. Lau Sum-yee, Sharon and Acting Assistant Director, Mr. Mok Hing-yim, visited the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), Institute of Atmospheric Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP) and the State Oceanic Administration (SOA) in Beijing during 18-19 April 2013.

Mr. Shun met with Dr. Zheng Guoguang, Adminstrator of CMA and exchanged views on ways to further enhance weather services for the public and for the aviation community. At the meeting, Dr. Zheng introduced the FY-2F rapid scan and satellite weather application platform (SWAP) and "The Journey of Meteorology" popular science exhibition zone at the China Science and Technology Museum. In addition, Mr. Shun held a meeting with CMA, Air Traffic Management Bureau of Civil Aviation Administration of China and Aviation Meteorological Centre to exchange views on the work to prepare for the conjoint meeting next year between the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology of the World Meteorological Organization.

Mr. Shun then visited IAP and meet with the Director Prof. Wang Huijun and other senior members of IAP. They shared views which laid a firmed foundation on future bilateral cooperation in areas such as aviation meteorology, typhoon, haze, climate change and extreme weather forecasting.

Mr. Shun also visited SOA and attended the Third Joint Working Group meeting. The meeting reviewed the progress of the follow-up items since the second meeting in 2010 and discussed further cooperation in future.
