"Solar Wind 2" Takes Gold

29 November 2007

The Observatory's "Solar Wind 2" won a Gold Award in the Best Car Decoration category of the Open Group in the 2007 Hong Kong Renewable Energy Car Technology Showcase & Design Competition.

The event was organised under the Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events 2007 (HKTREE2007) aiming at promoting public awareness and engineering applications of renewable energy. The competition was held at the Hong Kong Science Park on 24 November 2007.

The Observatory's own designed renewable energy car, "Solar Wind 2", was among 16 teams entered into the competition, which included power utilities, commercial firms, tertiary institutes and government departments. The Observatory was well represented with two smart drivers and a professional crew team, who were enthusiastically egged on by a 17-member cheer group. Although the event was not a timed race, "Solar Wind 2" did not disappoint. It operated smoothly and not without speed, maneuvered diligently and positively in and out of slaloms and easily completed the course.
