Hong Kong Observatory and Civil Aviation Department jointly launch Automatic Terminal Information Service on the Internet

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) and the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) jointly launched an Internet version of the Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) for the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on 15 August 2007. HKIA is one of the first international airports providing ATIS information on the Internet, the development of which is in response to the request of aviation users.

The ATIS is a broadcasting service operated by CAD which continuously disseminates vital airport information, including updated airfield, meteorological and navigational aids serviceability information, to pilots departing from or arriving at HKIA. In the past, this information was only available to pilots in voice form through radio broadcast, or in digital form via computer data link to the aircraft. This new Internet service, hosted on the HKO website, can be accessed at:
