Delegates from the Meteorological Department, Shenzhen Air Traffic Management Station, visited the Observatory

On 24 and 25 August 2009, a group of four delegates from the Meteorological Department, Shenzhen Air Traffic Management Station of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, under the leadership of the Director, Mr. Cheng Liangyu, visited the Observatory to look at the Airport Meteorological Office and the LIght Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) system. They also discussed with the Observatory on the enhancement of co-operation between the two organizations on thunderstorm nowcasting and windshear alerting. The Shenzhen Air Traffic Management Station plans to introduce the Short-range Warnings of Intense Rainstorms in Localized Systems (SWIRLS) nowcasting system developed by the Observatory to strengthen its capability in the alerting of thunderstorms.
