Visit by delegates from the International Civil Aviation Organization

6 July 2015

A high level delegation of 10 persons from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), led by Mr. Farid Zizi, President of Air Navigation Commission, visited the Hong Kong Observatory on 4 July 2015. During the visit, the Observatory introduced to them the operational and research aspects of the provision of aviation weather services in Hong Kong. The delegates were impressed by the wide array of developments in aeronautical meteorological services, including windshear and turbulence alerting, high resolution numerical modelling, significant convection forecast, electronic flight bag, etc. They also toured around the Airport Meteorological Office and Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) system. The visit strengthened the collaboration between ICAO and the Observatory.
