"Meteorology Series IV" won local and international awards

"Meteorology Series IV", a TV documentary series jointly produced by the Hong Kong Observatory and Television Division of Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), receives recognitions both at local and international arena. In particular, the second episode "Meltdown: Cryosphere under Pressure", won the prestigious Silver World Medal (Environment and Ecology category) at the international "2015 New York Festivals World's Best TV and Films" (Note 1). Locally, "Meteorology Series IV" was also rated the top 8th among 204 local television programmes in the "2014 TV Programme Appreciation Index Survey (TVAI)" (Note 2). It is encouraging to receive recognition from local and international communities.

The successful production and broadcast of the programme is a joint partnership of a number of government departments and organisations, including Radio Television Hong Kong, the Geotechnical Engineering Office, the Drainage Services Department, the Water Supplies Department, the Government Flying Service, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong and the host of the programme Mr. WM Leung.

"Meteorology Series IV", is a four-episode documentary series looking into the underlying causes and impact of extreme weather phenomena with climate change as background. Filming extreme weather conditions at first hand in places ranging from our hometown of Hong Kong, our close neighbours the Philippines and Vietnam, to distant countries such as Greenland and Lesotho in southern Africa, the series offered expert meteorological analysis and invited the public to reflect on the relationship between the development of human civilisation and its impact on Mother Nature, so as to increase public awareness of inclement weather and climate change as we face up the challenges of the future.

Note 2 The annual TV Programme Appreciation Index Survey, conducted by HKU Public Opinion Programme, aims to monitor public's appreciation level to local TV programs, which is an essential index to TV broadcast communities in addition to other ratings (e.g. Audience measurement).
