Hong Kong Observatory Won the Asia Geospatial Award for Excellence in Weather Services

The Hong Kong Observatory has won the Asia Geospatial Excellence Award for operating the Met on Map portal ( maps.weather.gov.hk/gis-portal/web/ ) on a Geographic Information System (GIS) platform.

The above recognition was bestowed by Geospatial Media and Communications on the Observatory's contribution for leveraging the power of geospatial technology and providing integrated global weather and geophysical information on the Met on Map portal. Such location-specific information is of tremendous value in natural disaster prevention and response, meeting the needs of the public, as well as diverse sectors including engineering, transportation, and industries.

The award was presented by Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Bin Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia during the GeoSmart Asia 2016 Conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 17 October 2016.

Geospatial Media and Communications, a global media organization promoting geospatial knowledge, has been conferring awards and recognitions for exemplary innovations and practices in geospatial information and technology in the Asia Pacific at the annual GeoSmart Asia conference. These awards have gained repute and credibility of being the awards for excellence in the domain.
