Display Area 5 : Evolution of the Observatory before WWII - Guardian of the Land
Exhibit 4
The Observatory started measuring sunshine duration in 1884. A glass ball served to focus the sunlight on a record card with a time scale. When the sun shone brightly, it burnt a hole on the card thereby recording the time. This exhibit is the sunshine record card on 15 December 1957.
