Seismograms
Seismogram for the magnitude 8.0 Sichuan earthquake recorded at the Observatory. The earthquake occurred at 2:28 p.m. on 12 May 2008 and caused about 70,000 deaths. The earthquake was also felt by Hong Kong residents. (top)
Seismogram for the magnitude 9.0 Japan earthquake recorded at the Observatory. The earthquake occurred at 2:46 p.m. on 11 March 2011. The devastating earthquake caused the tsunami which prompted the nuclear accident at Fukushima, Japan, and caused worldwide concern. (bottom)
