Using the Observatory's app to Cope with Extreme Situation

November 2019

After the attack of Super Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018, the Government has conducted a review of response to super typhoon. Under extreme situation, the Government will declare suspension of work according to established criteria after cancellation of the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8. An earlier update of the "MyObservatory" mobile app was launched to facilitate display of the related information.

When relevant information is issued under extreme situation, the logo of HKSAR Government will be shown on the home screen of the "MyObservatory" (Figure 1), and the detailed information will be displayed after clicking on the logo (Figure 2). If users choose to receive the "Weather-related Special Announcement" (Figure 3) in the notification settings of the app, a push notification will be received (currently supported on iOS and Android platforms) to get hold of the latest information from the government quickly.
