New attractions recently added to 360 Tour of the Observatory

Join the 360 Tour of the Observatory to make virtual visits to meteorological facilities in the Headquarters and at outstations of the Observatory, including attractions that are seldom open to visitors. Newly included to the tour are the Central Forecasting Office, TV Studio, Radiation Monitoring and Assessment Centre at HKO Headquarters, and Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) System at H.K.I.A. .

Central Forecasting Office

The Central Forecasting Office is responsible for the issuance of weather reports, forecasts and warnings, and manned by weather forecasters, observers and supporting staff round-the-clock.

TV Studio

TV Studio

Weather programmes produced in-house and central briefings on tropical cyclones are conducted in this TV Studio.

Radiation Monitoring and Assessment Centre

Radiation Monitoring and Assessment Centre

The Radiation Monitoring and Assessment Centre is the base for the Observatory personnel to direct the work of radiation monitoring and consequence assessment in the event of a nuclear accident. Exercises, drills and communication tests are also conducted here from time to time.

Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) System

Installed at the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok, the Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) System detects windshear occurring in rain-free conditions and enhances the efficiency of windshear detection over the runways.
