On 1 August 2010, a solar flare erupted on the Sun surface near a sunspot region, followed by a coronal mass ejection (CME) process. A vast amount of high energy particles were ejected to the space and had arrived at the Earth in the early hours on 4 August HKT.
This solar event was in medium scale and the Space Weather Prediction Center in the United States issued the G2 geomagnetic storm warning. Activities disturbed the magnetic field of the Earth. Auroras were observed at mid and high latitude regions. No damage reports on infrastructure, such as communications and power grids, have been received so far around the world.
