Hong Kong Observatory Summer Placement Programme 2023

The Summer Placement Programme of the Hong Kong Observatory is a training programme for full-time post-secondary students to learn and acquire work experience in their fields of study or interest through undertaking of a short-term project or research study at the Observatory. Mentors from the Observatory with relevant expertise will supervise the students.

Training Period :  8 weeks, starting from 5 June 2023 (Monday).

General Requirements :  Applicants should
(1) be full-time post-secondary students
     (a) studying locally; or
     (b) studying overseas who are permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR);
     and
(2) possess good academic background and specific knowledge/skills as specified in Annex II;
     and
(3) be fluent in Chinese and/or English.

Scholarship :  A scholarship at a rate of HK$ 11,200 per month will be granted by the Observatory to the students who have successfully enrolled in the Programme. An agreement will be signed between the Observatory and the University/Institution. The Observatory reserves the right to choose to withdraw the scholarship, on a pro-rata basis, should the offer be terminated for any reasons.

Student Status :  Students will work at the Observatory as student trainees. There will be no employer-employee relationship between the Observatory and the placement students. Their status as "registered students of their respective University/Institution" will be maintained.

Deadline for application :  Noon of 17 April 2023 (Monday) Hong Kong Local Time.

Offer of Appointment :  Successful candidates will be notified by 16 May 2023. Those who have not been informed of the results of selection by this date may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
