El Niño and La Niña

In July 2005, sea surface temperatures (SSTs) over the tropical Pacific Ocean were near normal (Figure 1). Current oceanographic and atmospheric conditions together with predictions from climate models indicate that near-neutral conditions would prevail over the basin in the coming months.
