Launch of the New Pamphlet on Low Level Wind Effect

A new pamphlet on the low level wind effect, jointly published by the Observatory, Hong Kong Airline Pilots Association (HKALPA) and The Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators (GAPAN), has been launched. It introduces the wind effect that buildings and man-made structures inside and around airports may bring about to the operation of the aircraft, the need of the wind study to assess the wind effect and the criterion to be used in analyzing the wind study results. The background of the wind study criterion is also introduced. It is hoped that the pamphlet helps raise the awareness of the pilots on the low level wind effect and provides background information to the owners of the new buildings/structures about how to proceed with the assessment of the low level wind effect.
