Radar-based windshear and turbulence detection

Raw data from the TDWR can be used to identify the location and magnitude of terrain-induced windshear and turbulence. An advanced data processing algorithm is applied to the radial winds, spectrum width and signal to noise ratio of TDWR base data to detect terrain-induced windshear and turbulence in clear air.

A sample diagram of radial winds measured by the TDWR is shown on the right hand side. Legend is given on the left of the diagram. Radial winds away from the radar have positive values, while those towards the radar are negative.
