HKO WeChat Official Account Adds Alert Notification Service

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) enhanced the services of its WeChat official account "香港天文台 HKO'" by adding an alert notification function (in Chinese only) for weather warnings and Special Weather Tips, enabling users to receive important weather information via WeChat Platform promptly.

When the HKO issues weather warnings (such as Rainstorm Warning Signals, Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals, etc.) or Special Weather Tips, users who have followed the HKO WeChat Official Account and activated the notification function will receive relevant push notifications. By tapping the push notification, users can access detailed warning and information in the message (Figure 1). This feature helps users stay informed of the latest weather warnings and information to plan the daily activities and outing plans.

Please use the following methods to follow the HKO WeChat official account and enable notifications to receive the latest weather updates (Figure 2):

Method 1: In the "Contacts" section of WeChat, select "Add Contacts", then choose "Official Accounts". Enter "Hong Kong Observatory" in the search bar and press "Follow". Enable the notification settings within the account to ensure you can receive alert push notifications.

Method 2: Scan the QR code on WeChat, then press "Follow" within the WeChat application and enable notification permissions.

After following the HKO WeChat Official Account, users can tap "Private Message" and then select the menu option "Set Alert Notifications" ^# (which is currently available in Chinese only) (Figure 3). Follow the instructions to activate or deactivate the notification service."

^# Remark: Upon users first access to the “Private Message”, please tap「?」in the conversation bar. The bottom menu will become available after a response is received.
