Extension of Model Forecast of Sea State from 4 Days to 6 Days

17 June 2026

The Observatory today (17 June 2026) extends the model forecast range of sea state on the "Earth Weather" and "Meteorological Information for Fishermen" webpages up to 6 days ahead.

Sea state forecasts include wave, swell and sea current forecasts generated by the Observatory's Operational Marine Forecasting System (OMFS). Model forecasts at user-selected grid on the GIS interface will be tabulated in time series format at the bottom of the webpage for "Meteorological Information for Fishermen".

The extension of forecast range enables users like shipping communities, fishing sector and people engaging in maritime operations and activities in the South China Sea or western North Pacific to better appreciate likely changes in the sea state over the region.

These extended sea state model forecasts are also available on the "MyObservatory" mobile app.
