The Observatory launches the "Real-time Ionospheric Scintillation Monitoring" web page

26 September 2025

The Hong Kong Observatory launched the "Real‑time Ionospheric Scintillation Monitoring” web page today (26 September) to provide ionospheric scintillation data recorded at the King's Park Meteorological Station in real-time. The web page enables the public to monitor local scintillation conditions and assess the potential impacts on satellite operations including positioning and communication. The service can help specific user groups, such as small unmanned aircraft operators, to plan and make assessment more effectively.

The web page features interactive charts updated every five minutes, displaying the scintillation index and the number of visible satellites with signal scintillation at different levels.

Members of the public can access the web page through the Observatory's Space Weather Main Page or by clicking here.
