Sea current forecast now available on “Earth Weather” and “Meteorological Information for Fisherman” webpages
22 January 2024
The Hong Kong Observatory today (22 January 2024) enhances the “Earth Weather” and “Meteorological Information for Fisherman” webpages with the addition of sea current forecast for the next 96 hours produced by the Observatory’s Operational Marine Forecasting System.
Direction of sea current is displayed in animation mode on both webpages, while sea current speed is shown using colour overlay. Information of sea current forecast at the user-selected grid on the GIS interface is also tabulated at the bottom of the “Meteorological Information for Fisherman” webpage.
The new product will help the shipping community, fishing sector and people engaging in maritime operations and activities in the South China Sea or western North Pacific better appreciate the changes in sea current over the region.
