Observatory’s Aeronautical Meteorological Adviser stations at new Integrated Airport Centre

19 July 2022

Within the framework of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Observatory is the designated meteorological authority in Hong Kong to provide weather services for international air navigation. To strengthen the communication and collaboration with the aviation community, from end-June 2022 onwards, the Observatory dispatches Aeronautical Meteorological Advisers to the new Integrated Airport Centre (IAC) of the Hong Kong International Airport to provide briefing and consultation services concerning high-impact weather in Hong Kong as well as Asian region to the stakeholders of the Centre. Real time and up-to-date weather information will facilitate flight planning and decision-making of the stakeholders to improve safety and efficiency of the aviation services.

The new IAC is run by the Airport Authority Hong Kong to monitor and manage the operation of the airport around the clock and to respond to emergencies such as severe weather. Apart from the Airport Authority Hong Kong and the Observatory, stakeholders of the Centre include the Civil Aviation Department, airlines, ground handling agents, cargo terminal operators, ramp operators, etc.
