The Observatory launches observations and forecasts at urban-scale meteorological monitoring stations
17 May 2022
The Hong Kong Observatory launched today (17 May 2022) an enhanced version of the “Automatic Regional Weather Forecast in Hong Kong & Pearl River Delta Region” (ARWF) service with experimental observations and automatic weather forecasts at several newly added urban meteorological monitoring stations.
The Observatory has been actively implementing microclimate observations and developing higher resolution weather forecast at urban level. The enhanced version of ARWF uses meteorological observations from the Observatory’s microclimate stations and the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer’s Multi-functional Smart Lampposts in Yau Tsim Mong, Kowloon City, Kwun Tong, and Sha Tin, as well as data from numerical weather prediction models to generate hourly forecasts of air temperature and relative humidity for the next three days. The public can thus gain better access to more detailed weather changes in the above districts. Users can view the forecast information by zooming into the map, or select the station forecast time series by clicking on the map.
Members of the public are welcome to visit the enhanced “Automatic Regional Weather Forecast in Hong Kong & Pearl River Delta Region” at https://maps.weather.gov.hk/ocf/.
