"Cool Met Stuff": Myth about summer: the day with longest sunshine may not be the hottest?

Summer solstice is the day with the longest period of daylight in the northern hemisphere. But if we take a look at the long-term climatological records, we would find that the hottest period of the year on average generally occurs after the summer solstice.
