The Observatory launched “My Weather Observation” feature for trial
2 July 2021
The Observatory today (2 July 2021) launched a new version of the “MyObservatory” app (iOS version 6.2, Android version 4.2) that comes with a trial feature of “My Weather Observation”, allowing users to report and share weather information.
Users may report weather phenomena including thunderstorm, hail, tornado, waterspout, windy condition, reduced visibility, frost/rime, rainbow, halo, and crepuscular rays through the use of “My Weather Observation”. In addition, members of the Community Weather Observation Scheme (CWOS) Facebook group can share weather photos and video clips to CWOS Facebook group through the “My Weather Observation” function. “My Weather Observation” will also display weather photos or video clips shared by some CWOS users.
In 2018, photos and video clips taken by the public during the passage of Super Typhoon Mangkhut were collected by the Observatory and was put on the webpage of “Interactive Map of Storm Damage by Mangkhut” for research and education use. The Observatory hopes that the trial function of “My Weather Observation” can raise public’s awareness of getting prepared for the challenges of extreme weather.
The "MyObservatory" is a free app. You are welcome to download at the links (iOS, Android). A simple registration is required for sharing weather reports using the “My Weather Observation” feature. Non-registered users may still see the weather information provided by other users.
