Wind gust and relative humidity forecasts now available on “Earth Weather”

6 July 2020

The Observatory today (6 July 2020) enhanced the “Earth Weather” website. In addition to the existing computer model forecasts for temperature, wind direction, wind speed, rainfall and sea state, the website also provides forecasts of wind gust and relative humidity. Gust refers to the instantaneous wind speed, which is usually higher with larger fluctuations when compared with sustained wind. The newly added wind gust forecasts allow users to better appreciate the short-term high wind conditions associated with weather systems such as thunderstorms, strong monsoon or tropical cyclones. The information will help the public to better plan their weather-sensitive activities and prepare for the changes in advance.

Furthermore, the enhanced website adopts more advanced graphic rendering and data processing technologies to improve the browsing experience.

The address of the “Earth Weather” is https://maps.hko.gov.hk/wxviewer/index.html?lang=en. The new features will also be introduced on the “MyObservatory” app in upcoming updates.
