The Observatory launches lightning forecast

24 March 2017

The Observatory launches a 'Hong Kong lightning nowcast' service today (24 March 2017), providing one-hour lightning forecast at user’s own or designated location. Members of the public can get access to lightning nowcast via the following mobile web page or the 'Automatic Regional Weather Forecast' web page. The lightning nowcast is depicted as half-hourly icons representing the forecast lightning situation in the next hour at user's own or designated location. The lightning nowcast is also presented as an animation on a map showing the future movement of lightning areas. This enables the public to get hold of the development of thunderstorms and take early precautionary measures.
