Delegation from the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center Visited the Hong Kong Observatory

Ms Kang Jian, Director-General of the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, led a delegation of six experts to visit the Hong Kong Observatory on 12 March 2026. They held an exchange meeting with colleagues from the Observatory.

The meeting discussed marine related work areas and future cooperation, including regional tsunami advisory in the South China Sea, implementation of the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme, development of multi-hazard integrated marine forecasting, and development of storm surge and wave forecasting technologies. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Backup South China Sea Tsunami Advisory Center (Hong Kong), Central Forecasting Office and other facilities at the Observatory Headquarters, as well as the tide station and the seismograph station at Tsim Bei Tsui, to learn more about the latest development of the Observatory in earthquake and tsunami monitoring as well as marine meteorology.
