Observatory Staff received Secretary for the Civil Service’s Commendation 2025

Mr Wong Wai-kin, Senior Scientific Officer, received the Secretary for the Civil Service’s Commendation Award on 12 March 2026 in recognition of his long-standing meritorious performance over the years.

Mr Wong is dedicated to enhancing the Observatory’s forecasting services. He is responsible for the development of nowcasting techniques for rainstorm and hazardous weather and leads the team in developing AI-based nowcasting systems. He also participates in World Meteorological Organization projects and expert groups, providing training and sharing technical knowledge for Southeast Asian countries.

The Secretary for the Civil Service’s Commendation Award Scheme, first introduced in 2004, gives recognition to civil servants who have achieved exemplary work performance continuously for five years or above. A total of 100 civil service colleagues received the awards under the scheme in 2025.
