Observatory’s colleagues visited Facilities of Air Traffic Management Bureau of Civil Aviation Administration of China in Beijing and Xiamen

Mr. Dickson Lau, Acting Principal Experimental Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), led a four-member delegation to visit multiple facilities of the Air Traffic Management Bureau of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC ATMB), including the Aviation Meteorological Center (AMC), the Meteorological Observatory of Daxing Air Traffic Management Center, and the Meteorological Department of Xiamen Air Traffic Management Station (Xiamen ATM Station) from 3 to 6 March 2026. The visit aims to strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange between HKO and AMC of CAAC ATMB in aviation meteorological services, particularly in the application and development of artificial intelligence and innovative technologies. Additionally, the delegation had the opportunity to learn about the latest developments and applications of meteorological instruments installed at Daxing airport, and visited the observation field of the Meteorological Department of Xiamen ATM Station to conduct an on-site inspection of its meteorological facilities.

This visit not only provided a valuable opportunity for HKO’s colleagues to gain an in-depth understanding of the operations of the aviation meteorological department in the Chinese Mainland, but also further demonstrated HKO’s commitment to long-term technical collaboration with CAAC ATMB in the field of aviation meteorological services.
